As dictators began rising to challenge world peace, Japan wanted to expand its empire towards the Chinese territories in order to increase their power just like the western countries. Japanese militarists then convinced their leaders to seize Manchuria in 1931. And since this was successfully accomplished, the League of Nations wasn't enough to stop them from sending troops to eastern portions of China and begin their conquering. But in the midst of their aggressive and imperialistic acts, the U.S. halts all exports to Japan. With previous tension built up between U.S. and Japan, General Hideki Tojo takes action.
Being Commander of the Japanese Army, Tojo ordered a surprise attack on the American Naval Port, Pearl Harbor. Japanese airplanes flew over the Pacific Ocean in great numbers and began continuously dropping bombs on the island of Hawaii. American soldiers were caught aghast and defenseless. Tojo's sudden attack resulted in the destruction of 19 U.S ships, planes, and more than 2,400 lives. American President Roosevelt then declared war on Japan, which led to Germany and Italy (being on Japan's side) declaring war on the United States.
